Frequently Asked Questions
What is Association Benach?
We are a legally registered nonprofit cultural and educational association in Italy. All of our work is carried out by volunteers and is reinvested into historical research, education, exhibitions, and commemorative projects.
Why are you called Association Benàch?
Benàch, in fact, was the ancient name of Lake Garda, and most likely the small town of Nago too (the local dialect is called ‘Nach’)
What are your main activities?
- World War II exhibitions and educational programs for schools, military bases, and the community.
- Research on missing aircraft and soldiers (MIA cases).
- Documentary production (e.g., The Lost Mountaineers,
With Love, Billy).
- Preservation of archives, digital history, and memorial sites.
- Advocacy for a Museum of War and Peace in Torbole.
When were you founded? Benàch was founded in 2011 by a group of people interested in developing greater awareness for local historical events
Where are you located?
We predominantly operate out of Nago-Torbole, but study and promote historical events from other provinces in the Trentino region.
What types of history do you focus on?
We are particularly passionate about World War II history, but recognise that this region of Italy played an important role in World War I and the Cold War as well.
How are you funded? Until now, almost everything has been self-funded by our founders. We also receive donations from individuals, sponsorship from companies, and occasional grants. Every contribution is reinvested directly into our projects.
How can I support you?
There are many ways to support Association Benàch:
💛 Donate directly through our website or by bank transfer. Every euro goes straight into our projects.
📢 Spread the word — share our page, talk about our work with
friends, family, and colleagues.
🤝 Business sponsorships — if you know a company (especially one with a military connection or veteran-led) that might be interested, please let them know about us. Their support can make a huge
difference.
🎁 Donate objects. We welcome donations of WWII-related items,
particularly those connected to Lake Garda.
Every form of support — big or small — helps us keep the memory of
WWII alive and build lasting bridges between Italy, the U.S., and future generations.
We are excited to hear you are interested and would love to have you get involved. Please visit our Support Us page to learn more information about the different ways that you can contribute to our organization
Do you work internationally?
Yes. Our projects involve collaboration with U.S. families, military institutions, museums, and associations — not only in Italy but also in the United States and beyond. At the bottom of our homepage, you’ll also find a list of our partners, supporters, and sponsors — including organizations in the U.S. such as Honor for Heroes, the 10th Mountain Division, and the Fort Smith Museum of History.
