When William, a former U.S. Army Ranger studying in Bologna, saw that a Mogadishu Mile was being held in a small Italian town on Lake Garda, his first reaction was curiosity. “What did this little Italian town have to do with Ranger Regiment or Mogadishu?” he recalled thinking. On Sunday, he found his answer. William, who served with 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, joined five others for Torbole’s first MOG Mile, a one-mile commemorative run remembering the U.S. service

On POW/MIA Recognition Day, Associazione Benàch remembers the 25 U.S. servicemen lost with a DUKW on Lake Garda in 1945, and 1st Lt. Truman L. Allen, whose P-47 disappeared over the lake four days earlier.

Six U.S. troops based in Germany marked America's 250th Independence Day by completing the unassisted Darby 40 Miler at Lake Garda, Italy — retracing BG William O. Darby's final route in extreme heat. The march honors Darby and 25 soldiers of the 10th Mountain Division still listed as missing since April 30, 1945. A surprise welcome from Association Benàch awaited them at the finish, where Capt. Javier Pino called it "a humbling tribute and an experience we will never forget.

Andrew Dayton retraces his grandfather's path through the battlefields of Lake Garda and honours the men who liberated the eastern shores of the lake in April 1945. Andrew's grandfather Samuel Gray Dayton a soldier of Company H of the 86th Infantry Regiment of the 10th Mountain Division (the American Alpini), who liberated the towns on the eastern shore of Lake Garda, including Nago-Torbole.
